Aberdeen Asset Management hosted an informal lunch for key property and business media to share the future vision for the evolving retail and leisure offer at the North West’s most visited free tourist attraction, which welcomed 6.3m visitors last year.
Designed by Jesse Hartley and originally opened in 1846, Albert Dock is the largest group of Grade I listed buildings in the UK, and located on the spectacular Liverpool waterfront – a UNESCO world heritage site. There is no better backdrop for the creation of a prime retail and leisure destination.
Speaking ahead of the lunch, Richard Wilson of Aberdeen Asset Management, said:
“Albert Dock is a unique space and we have been working closely with our partners in Gower Street Estates since we acquired the commercial spaces in 2016. We want to create a new vision of the future of the retail and leisure offer for this one of a kind destination. We are really pleased with the direction of travel and will be introducing the scheme to planners and to the market in the next few weeks. We
are working with existing tenants to reconfigure some of the smaller units and create interesting spaces for fledgling businesses to grow.
“This event is about giving the media a taste of things to come. The Dock attracted 6.3m visitors last year, despite having low engagement locally. We are keen to revitalise the offer by introducing key assets like the recent pop up by Leather Satchel Company, which has proved to be so successful we are in discussion with them for their first flagship store.”
Creative director, Gavin Tuck of Small Back Room, presented the creative direction and spoke about the vision, adding:
“We are embarking on a journey of change, one that will improve the overall attraction of Albert Dock. It’s the creation of a vision for the future direction of Albert Dock, to meet the needs of all of the customers that we serve in this incredible waterfront location.”
The plans shared sees the vision for Albert Dock’s retail and leisure units with double-height, glazed windows allowing the light and the incredible views in, and enabling double-height retail units along The Colonnades.
