The Bluecoat have announced their upcoming programme for 2019 which features a series of exhibitions, events and residencies which look towards the future of artistic practice. Highlights for the year include the group exhibition “Survey” in partnership with Jerwood, solo exhibitions with Shezad Dawood and Grace Ndiritu and a new exhibition with American artist Alexis Teplin.
2019 is an exciting and busy year for Bluecoat as they welcome a wide range of exhibitions through their doors. This spring, visitors will see the work of artists in the early stages of their careers as “Survey” comes to the iconic Liverpool City Centre landmark . Also visiting Bluecoat this year is Dawood’s epic film series and artwork “Leviathan” which ties into Bluecoat’s “society and migration” season. Leviathan will follow the environmental changes and migratory patterns between Europe and Africa.
Audiences will also be able to visit Grace Ndiritu’s “The Ark” which focuses on the role of art, science, spirituality and politics in order to develop new ways of thinking about life and the problems of the 21st century. Alexis Teplin’s solo show of new work will premier at Bluecoat, which is her largest major UK exhibition, and will showcase crosses between painting, performance and film, drawing parallels between the process of each art form.
There are a number of residencies which will also feature at Bluecoat this year. From Nurrachmat Widyasena, who will examine the national mythologies of space travel in the run up to the 50th anniversary of the moon landings. To Suki Chan who’s interdisciplinary project “A Conscious Life” will bring together the diverse, subjective perspectives of scientists and ordinary people. CreArt have a one-month residency at Bluecoat which will show the work of two artists from the CreArt network. Chinar Shah will also be returning to continue her research into feminist politics in international contexts. And finally in October, Bluecoat will launch “Residents” which is a new programme aimed at supporting artists living and working in the city.
