Christmas 2018 Late Night Buses and Trains Services

This Christmas, night bus and rail services will be running on selected routes, meaning you’ll have more choice and flexibility in planning your festive nights out.

Whether you’re planning your work night out, watching a show or meeting up with friends for a festive get together, additional late night transport services are available in the run up to Christmas – offering you a reliable and great value way to make the most of your nights out.

Arriva, Stagecoach and Merseyrail will be running late night buses and trains this festive season to help you get home easily.

Late night buses and trains

Buses run from Liverpool City Centre, Sir Thomas Street to Chester Centre or to Ellesmere Port every Friday and Saturday night throughout the year.

There are buses from Liverpool ONE Bus Station to Liverpool Airport via Penny Lane every night of the year.

Additional Trains will operate on Friday nights/Saturday mornings 14 and 21 December and Saturday nights/Sunday mornings 15 and 22 December.

Trains will run a limited service at 1.30am from Liverpool Central to Hooton, stopping to drop off only at Birkenhead Central, Bebington, Bromborough and Hooton stations; and from Liverpool Central to Southport, stopping to drop off only at Waterloo, Formby and Southport stations.

Christmas Eve – Monday 24 December

Buses will mostly run to Saturday timetables, most services will finish earlier than usual – check Merseytravel Christmas & New Year Transport Guide, www.merseytravel.gov.uk/travel-updates or ring Customer Services on 0151 330 1000 for details.

Wirral, Northern and City line rail services will finish early – check www.merseyrail.org/christmas or www.northernrailway.co.uk

Mersey Ferries will run to their normal timetable with an early finish. The last ferry will depart from Liverpool Pier Head at 1500 arriving at Seacombe 1520, Woodside 1530 and finishing at Pier Head at 1550. The Kingsway (Wallasey) Mersey Tunnel and the Queensway (Birkenhead) Mersey Tunnel will be open throughout the holiday period. Both tunnels will be toll free from 2200 on Monday 24 December until 0600 on Wednesday 26 December

Christmas Day –Tuesday 25 December

A special network of free bus services, funded by Merseytravel, will run between approximately 12 noon and 6pm, covering most hospital routes – check Merseytravel Christmas & New Year Transport Guide, www.merseytravel.gov.uk/travel-updates or call Customer Services on 0151 330 1000 for details.

No other bus services will operate.

No trains will operate.

Mersey Ferries will not operate.

The Kingsway (Wallasey) Mersey Tunnel and the Queensway (Birkenhead) Mersey Tunnel will be open throughout the holiday period. Both tunnels will be toll free from 2200 on Monday 24 December until 0600 on Wednesday 26 December

Boxing Day – Wednesday 26 December

Soccerbus will not run for the Liverpool vs Newcastle United match.

No trains will operate

Mersey Ferries will not operate.

Normal Mersey Ferry services resume, with the first Commuter service at 0720 from Seacombe Ferry and the first River Explorer Cruise at 1000 from the Pier Head.

The Kingsway (Wallasey) Mersey Tunnel and the Queensway (Birkenhead) Mersey Tunnel will be open as usual.

Customer Services – 0151 330 1000

Open from 0700 to 2000 on Mondays to Fridays and from 0800 to 2000 on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays

Our Customer Services will be open normally throughout the holiday, except for the following days:

24 December: 0700 – 1800 25 December: closed all day 26 December: 0800 – 2000 31 December: 0700 – 1800 1 January: 0800 – 2000

Merseytravel Travel Centres

Merseytravel Travel Centres will be open normally throughout the festive season, except on 25 December, 26 December and 1 January when they will be closed.

Trains

The late night train fare will be £3. If you have purchased a return or day saver ticket it will be valid on the late trains even though the journey times are in the early hours of the following day. Valid Railpass, Trio and Saveaway tickets and concessionary passess will be accepted.
