Acclaimed tapas restaurant, El Gato Negro, is to open its doors at Exchange Flags Liverpool on Friday 2 August.
The news, announced on 15 July, follows the refurbishment of the former Vincent Café & Bar, injecting new life into the beautiful heritage building.
Since news of Chef Patron and Creative Director of El Gato Negro Simon Shaw’s plans to bring the award-winning tapas restaurant to Liverpool, the restaurant has been inundated with enquiries, with reservations being opened.
Renowned for providing seasonally inspired dishes reflecting a mix of modern and traditional Spanish flavours and techniques, with influences from closer to home, the restaurant, born out of Ripponden, Yorkshire, established at King St, Manchester, and now opening at Exchange Flags, Liverpool, has received recognition from the most influential of critics.
In 2019 the restaurant was awarded a prestigious Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand for the third year running. It has also been acknowledged in Hardens, The Good Food Guide and The Times.
Guests at the historic Exchange Flags restaurant can expect to enjoy all of Shaw’s signature award-winning dishes including: morcilla scotch eggs with mushroom duxelle, apple purée and aioli; mini Catalan chorizo with Aspall cider; chargrilled octopus, new potatoes, capers, shallots and aioli, and Padrón peppers with Halen Môn sea salt.
All will be served in the beautiful open plan restaurant with a mix of booths and table seating providing an intimate dining experience whilst enabling guests to soak up the atmosphere.
Solo diners or those simply looking to get closer to the action will love the chef’s table, where they can watch Shaw’s award-winning team at work on the charcuterie counter. With views out on to the historic square it’s the perfect place to enjoy a quick bite at lunch.
A private dining room will provide privacy for celebratory and business dinners, with an impressive island bar, complete with seating for 70 guests, serving an extensive range of classic cocktails, premium local produce and a select range of Spanish wines and sherry.
El Gato Negro’s outdoor terrace will be a firm favourite for sun seekers with a further 40 covers for guests looking to drink and dine in the sheltered, sun lit square.
Speaking on the announcement, Shaw said:
“I’ve been blown away by the response we’ve enjoyed to El Gato Negro’s plans for Liverpool. I’m looking forward to opening the doors to El Gato Negro Exchange Flags on August 2 and to being a part of the incredible city. “
